On Wednesday July 2023, we will be participating in a program titled ‘Mapping and Tracking’ run by Amaroo Environmental Education Centre at Peacehaven Botanical Park in Highfields.
The aim of the excursion is for students to participate in activities involving the natural environment and practise basic mapping skills.
Excursion details:
Students to be dropped off at school at usual starting time.
Organised bus to depart Toowoomba North State School at approximately 8:30am on Wednesday 19th July and return at 2:30pm.
Bus will travel to Peacehaven Botanical Park in Highfields – this is where the activities for the day will take place.
Activities for day include:
Walk around Peacehaven Botanical Park to observe plant and animal abundance.
Following task cards with simple instructions, students will navigate their way around the park, recording answers to questions in a booklet, requiring them to draw and identify trees, symbols and signs during the walk, estimate distance and record information.
Importance of plants to the Murri culture.
Students design a symbol story about Murris Connection to Country.
Discussion on sustainable use of the local area
Indigenous connections to Country and Place
Excursion is of low risk and risk management strategies have been put in place.
Students are to wear full school uniform (including closed in shoes and a hat).
Student need to bring their own lunch and waterbottle.
Students will take their school bag containing their hat, waterbottle and lunchbox.

Cost for the excursion is $12 per student.
